ESSB 5814, effective October 1, 2025, significantly impacts charitable (nonprofit) organizations in Washington by expanding the types of services and activities that are subject to retail sales tax and the retailing business and occupation (B&O) tax. As a result, CREW Seattle has added the cost of applicable taxes to our non-member luncheon registrations, as members of an affiliate group are generally excluded from the definition of “retail sale” and are instead subject to the service and other activities B&O tax classification.
